Is Rum Becoming the New Gin?

Gin has taken over the alcohol market over the past few years but with a new decade bringing us new trends, rum is catching it up. Experts predict that 2020 could be the year for rum!

With a strong origin, rich history and cultural Caribbean and Navy heritage, rum has increased in popularity, topping £1 billion for the first time in 2018, with over 1 billion litres consumed. It is only getting more popular, with the demand increasing for different flavours and ages of rum and rum-based cocktails, as an alternative to drinking the standard dark rum, spiced rum, and white rum. Golden spiced rum is set to be a favourite in 2020, with sales predicted to rise by 33%.

Many rum companies have begun adapting to this high demand, to produce rums such as Gingerbread Spiced Rum, Coconut Rum and premium rums. There has also been a noticeable rise of pre-mixed rum cocktails such as Mojito’s and Pina Coladas, appearing on the shelves.

Alnwick Rum is already prepared for rush for a rum this year, offering a highly recommended golden spiced rum along with many impressive ranges of flavoured rum liqueurs including Blackcurrant, Pineapple & Coconut, Raspberry and Almond.
